Mahendra Kadia is famous for his colorful pastels on paper and his powerful, large scale abstracts on canvas. Most of his recent work has been on birds and the freedom and uninhibited joy with which they move in the skies. His keen, daily trips in the outdoors have captured them in their abandonment, often flipping upside down in somersaults.
A graduate of Sheth C.N. College of Fine Arts, Ahmedabad, Kadia has held several group shows in India and overseas: The Nehru Centre, London, 2003, Indo-German Artists' group show in Germany, 2001, International Exhibition of Paintings, Sculpture and Graphics organized by the Panchamrit collaboration with Indo-Soviet Nicolai Roerich Art Club, India.
Among other awards, Kadia has been recipient of the National Junior Fellowship, Ministry of Human Resources, Department of Culture, New Delhi, and national awards from Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, 1989, and Nehru Cultural Award, Hyderabad.
His works are in several private and public collections in India and abroad.
